Although it was completely destroyed during the war, the Ypres Market Square was completely restored and is now one of the most beautiful market squares in Belgium. You can have a drink on one of the many terraces and just enjoy your view on historical Ypres or visit the many beautiful buildings reflecting Ypres' glorious past.
The Market Square of Ypres is the largest of Flanders after Sint-Niklaas. A market that fills the whole square with stalls is held here every Saturday morning.
In medieval times, during its most prosperous commercial period in history, the market square of Ypres was one of the largest in Belgium and one of the most important centres of international cloth trade.
Its wealth was reflected in the construction of the magnificent Cloth Hall.
Other highlights on the Market Place are The Town Hall, the Courthouse and the Old Seignory Building.
