Themed day trip Centenary 1917-2017

Centenary First World War: 1917 - 2017: day program for groups (15 people or more)

More than a hundred years ago, all hell broke loose in the Westhoek. The First World War left nothing but ruins of the beautiful mediaeval town of Ypres. The quiet landscape around the glorious Cloth Hall was transformed into a battlefield were nothing was left standing. Until today, in and around Ypres the traces of senseless violence are to be found. The many initiatives around the centenary bring everything under the attention again. This day program for groups immerses you in the war history of a hundred years ago, back to 1917, the bloodiest year in the Great War, with the Third Battle of Ypres. In the afternoon, a guide takes you on a battlefield tour to have a look at the remnants still visible in the landscape today. The day starts with a visit to the In Flanders Fields Museum and includes the temporary exhibition on 1917.
